Moving in the inner south: what to plan for
- Character homes. Unley, Malvern and Hyde Park are full of villas and bungalows from the late 1800s to the 1930s. Long central hallways, tight doorways and old floors mean we protect floors and doorframes, and sometimes take furniture apart to get it through.
- Narrow streets. Many streets are lined with parked cars on both sides. Tell us where the truck can stop, or ask a neighbour to leave a gap outside your house on the morning.
- Infill and rear townhouses. Some large blocks now have townhouses at the back, reached by a long driveway. Expect a longer carry.
- Main roads and the tram. Unley Road, King William Road and Goodwood Road are busy shopping strips, and the Glenelg tram runs through Goodwood, Wayville and Black Forest. A weekday morning is the easiest time to load on a main road.
Typical moves in the inner south
- Renters moving out of a Parkside or Goodwood cottage.
- Families moving into a character home with a piano or antiques to handle carefully.
- Downsizers leaving a large villa for an apartment or a townhouse.
