What counts as a small move
- A studio or 1-bedroom unit
- A granny flat, or a room in a share house
- Student moves between rentals
- A storage unit to a home, or the other way around
- Part of a home, such as one room's furniture
What a small move costs
Small moves are where cheap hourly rates can mislead. A low rate with a slow crew, depot-to-depot charges or extras added at the end costs more than an honest rate with a crew that gets on with it. Compare the total, not the hourly number.
Here is how ours works: the hourly rate for two movers and a truck, a minimum of 2 hours and a call-out of 0.5 hours. The clock starts when we arrive at your pickup address and stops when the last item is in place at your new home.
| Move | Typical time | Estimate |
|---|---|---|
| A few items, under 10 km | 2–2.5 h | $350–$420 |
| 1-bedroom unit, ground floor | 2.25–3.5 h | $380–$560 |
| 1-bedroom unit, one flight of stairs | 2.5–4 h | $420–$630 |
Last-minute and same-week moves
Leases end early, settlements move and housemates leave. Call or WhatsApp John and ask: if a crew is free that day or that week, he'll tell you straight away. Small moves are the easiest to fit in at short notice, especially on weekdays.
When you might not need a removalist
If it's a few boxes and a mattress, and you have a car and a friend, you may not need us. If there's a fridge, a couch, stairs, or a lift booked for a set time, two movers with a truck are usually faster and safer than a hired ute and a sore back.
Make it quicker, and cheaper
- Pack and tape every box before we arrive, and label them by room.
- Take beds apart if you can, and keep the screws in a sealed bag.
- Book the lift or the loading zone, and keep a parking spot free for the truck.
- Put everything that's going near the door. Every trip down a hallway is time on the clock.
