Moving in the foothills: what to plan for
- Steep driveways. Many homes in Belair, Eden Hills and Blackwood sit well above or below the street. If the truck can't safely use the driveway, we park on the road and carry.
- Split levels and garden steps. Count the steps between the street and the front door, and inside the house. It's the biggest factor in the time.
- Winding roads. Belair Road, Old Belair Road and Upper Sturt Road are narrow in places, and a truck sometimes needs to stop further away than a car would.
- Colonel Light Gardens. A heritage garden suburb of 1920s bungalows, with narrow streets and grass verges. Character homes need careful handling at doorways and on old floors.
- Wet weather. Winter rain makes slopes and paths slippery, so allow a little more time in the wet months.
