The route
The usual route leaves Adelaide on the South Eastern Freeway, follows the Dukes Highway through Tailem Bend, Keith and Bordertown, then the Western Highway through Horsham and Ballarat into Melbourne.
- Distance: about 725 km.
- Driving time: 8 to 9 hours, plus rest breaks for the driver.
- Time zone: Melbourne is 30 minutes ahead of Adelaide all year, which matters when you plan the delivery time.
Dedicated truck or shared load
- Dedicated truck. Your things only, picked up and delivered on the dates you choose. Best if you need to be in by a set date, such as the start of a lease.
- Shared load. Part of a truck already making the trip. Cheaper, with a delivery window instead of a fixed time.
Arriving in Melbourne
- Inner-city streets in suburbs like Fitzroy, Carlton or South Yarra are narrow and often permit-only. Ask your new council whether a removal truck needs a temporary parking permit.
- Apartment towers need the lift and the loading dock booked, just like in Adelaide.
- Keys and access. If you're flying, arrange for someone to meet the truck, or agree on a delivery time that matches your flight.
How it's priced
Priced per cubic metre, or a fixed price after we confirm your inventory. See interstate removals for a rough guide to the volume of each home size.
