Moving in Glenelg: what to plan for
Glenelg packs a lot of different homes into a small area, and each one moves differently:
- Apartments along the foreshore. The Esplanade, Holdfast Shores and the blocks around Moseley Square mostly have lifts, basement car parks and building rules about moving times. Book the lift early and ask whether the truck can use a loading bay.
- Older walk-up unit blocks. Many 1960s and 1970s blocks in Glenelg, Glenelg North and Glenelg East have two or three storeys and no lift. Stairs are the biggest factor in the time, so add them in the estimator.
- Character homes and new townhouses. Further back from the beach there are bungalows, villas and the townhouses that replaced them. Narrow side paths and tight front doors mean big pieces sometimes need to be taken apart first.
Parking the truck near Jetty Road
The tram runs down Jetty Road to Moseley Square, and the shopping strip is busy most days. If you live on or just off Jetty Road, tell us where the nearest legal spot for a truck is, or whether your building has a loading zone. In some streets a temporary parking permit from the City of Holdfast Bay makes moving day much easier; it is worth asking the council a week ahead.
